What to do when you've exhausted the family system and school resources or when your child is struggling beyond control and the traditional school/counselor support isn't getting results? Hiring an Educational Consultant might be the next step. Ed consultants serve as a crucial role in connecting families to the right school, college, or support program for a child/young adult.
In my career as an educator, I've worked with Ed Consultants for 17 years in supporting families at our school and in planning the next step, often college or other post-secondary options. Ed Consultants often rely on family educational history, Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), Neuropsychological Testing, Psycho-Educational Testing, and other tests such as Myers-Briggs, MMPI, and career inventory tests. These tools (combined with an Ed Consultant's knowledge and experience) guide a child/young adult to reaching their full potential in school and transitional settings. Their role is complex, and I admire consultants who've become friends and carved out a niche in supporting those on the Autism Spectrum and those with other special needs. Below is a list of Ed Consultant options should you and your family decide to look at options beyond the traditional scope of school resources.
