This article from the Climbing Business Journal discusses why many on the Autism Spectrum enjoy rock climbing. In my career, I've seen many students love the challenge of climbing indoors, with the obvious you-either-get-to-the-top-or-you-don't aspect of the sport. When I was an administrator and teaching PE at my former school, we had students who were calmed down by the act of climbing. Their quiet tenacity and focus showed on their faces, and they were oddly calm even though they were out of breath. In my students, body size didn't matter as I had bigger kids routinely using the auto-belays and belaying for their peers. They seemed to get as much enjoyment out of it as their skinnier peers.
