One of my favorite parts of being a teacher and administrator is hearing student successes after they've graduated high school and are out in the community. And of course there's a transition from the structure and schedule of high school to work or college that is much more challenging. Three student successes I can share:
A former student who struggled in high school who now runs two of his own manual labor businesses while taking community college classes. He's making his own money and loving the challenge of not spending it too quickly.
Another student who grew his passion for cars by buying, improving, and selling them on to fund future purchases. This young man even has a girlfriend (who would've thought!).
A formerly out-of-shape kid who has taken up running to get the junk out of his head. He says that he still loves ice cream but runs to keep the pounds off.
From kids on the Autism Spectrum to more typical students, it's awesome when former students check in. After 18 years in education, I'm shocked that some have kids of their own and are all grown up! I absolutely love the lives that these kids are building and hearing of their successes makes me smile!
